Privacy Policy
Float It: Text & Window PiP values your privacy. This page explains exactly what data the extension handles, what it doesn't, and why.
What stays on your device
Every snippet you float, every note you write, every tag, pin, and appearance setting is stored using Chrome's local storage, on your device only. Text highlighting, Document PiP rendering, and style overrides all happen entirely inside your browser. None of this content is ever transmitted anywhere, and we have no server capable of receiving it even if we wanted to.
What Pro licensing sends externally
If you purchase Float It Pro, the extension sends your license key to our payment processor, Lemon Squeezy, to verify your subscription is active. Lemon Squeezy returns your license status and the email address associated with your purchase, which is stored locally so the extension can show your account status without checking in constantly. This request only happens for Pro users, only to Lemon Squeezy's licensing API, and never includes any of your snippets, notes, or browsing activity.
Lemon Squeezy acts as the merchant of record for all purchases and processes your payment details directly — Float It never sees or stores your card information. Their handling of your data is governed by the Lemon Squeezy Privacy Policy.
Read aloud and optional online voices
Read aloud (a Pro feature) uses your browser's built-in text-to-speech engine — Float It does not use any paid or third-party voice service, and there is no Float It server involved in this feature at all. Your browser may offer two kinds of voices: on-device voices, which process everything locally and never send anything anywhere, and online voices (typically labeled "Google" voices in Chrome), which are synthesized by your browser vendor's own servers and therefore receive the text of whatever you choose to have read aloud. This choice is entirely yours — the voice picker labels which voices are online versus offline, and using an on-device voice keeps this feature fully local like everything else in Float It.
Permissions this extension uses
Float It requests storage and unlimitedStorage to save your snippets locally, alarms to periodically re-check Pro status and clean up expired free-plan snippets, and host access limited specifically to api.lemonsqueezy.com for license verification. It does not request access to your browsing history, tabs, cookies, or any other website's data beyond the text you explicitly select.
Cookies
This website uses zero cookies — no analytics, no advertising, no session tracking of any kind. Fonts are served from our own domain rather than a third-party CDN, so no data is sent to any outside service just by visiting this site.
Analytics and telemetry
Float It contains zero trackers, third-party analytics scripts, or telemetry beacons — in the extension or on this website.
Data retention and deletion
On the Free plan, any snippet that isn't pinned is automatically deleted once it's 30 days old, checked roughly twice a day by the extension's own background process — pinning a snippet exempts it from this cleanup. Pro uses that same 30-day default too, unless you change it: Pro's Appearance settings let you choose 90 days, a year, or Forever instead, so Pro's real retention advantage is that choice, not automatic unlimited storage. Beyond that, uninstalling the extension permanently deletes all locally stored snippets, notes, and settings from your device, and you can also use the "Clear all" option inside the extension at any time. License and billing data held by Lemon Squeezy is retained according to their own policy and applicable financial recordkeeping requirements; you can request deletion of that data directly through their customer portal.
Children's privacy
Float It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone in that age group.
Your rights
Since nearly all data stays on your device under your direct control, most access and deletion requests are handled by simply using the extension's own controls or uninstalling it. For anything related to a Pro purchase — including data held by Lemon Squeezy — contact us using the details below and we'll help directly.
For users in the EU, EEA, or UK
Float It is operated from Serbia. Serbia is not an EU member state, but where we process personal data belonging to someone in the EU, EEA, or UK — such as the email address Lemon Squeezy provides when you buy Pro — we aim to handle it consistently with GDPR and UK GDPR principles. The legal basis for this processing is performance of the contract formed when you purchase a license. You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of that data, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe it's been mishandled. Because this data is held by Lemon Squeezy as the payment processor, many of these requests are fastest to resolve directly through their customer portal.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects how your data is handled, we'll update this page and revise the date below. Continued use of the extension after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
